Born in France in 1921, Claude began painting at the age 7, and immediately knew that creating incredible works of art would be his lifelong passion. Known for his landscape paintings, Schurr first studied at the Pasteur High School in Neuilly - sur - Seine, then moving on to study at the National School of Fine Arts in Paris from 1938 - 1942. He became a professor at the Académie Julian in Paris in 1952, then professor at the National School of Applied Arts and Crafts in 1956.
He was a member of the jury of the National School of Fine Arts from 1962 to 1968, then created with Jean-Maxime Relange Academy of Port Royal in 1969.
